Science Center, Bhopal – A Place for Learning with Fun

After spending a pious and peaceful day at the Lakshmi Narayan temple of Bhopal the previous day, it was the time for some knowledge. Being a Social Science teacher and a mother of two children, I knew the importance of knowledge and science in the lives of people. Science is one such branch which needs to be imbibed into children from the earliest time. On the fourth day, we decided to go for a trip to the Regional Science Center in Bhopal. The science center is located near the Shyamala Hills and therefore one can also experience the beauty of nature along with some knowledge.

The entire park is spread across a land of 5 acres. There are different galleries within the science center which showcases different exhibitions on several scientific topics, such as gear train, wave motion, wind mill, echo tube, hydraulic jack, roller coaster, ellipse tracing, centrifugal force etc.

There is also a portable planetarium within the science which is portable and can accommodate 25 people in a single go. The show hosts different signs and stars and zodiacs. While the entry fee is quite nominal and just Rs. 2 one can get immense knowledge about the universe, solar system and other constellations here. The 30 minute show is planned in different intervals of the day, at 12:30 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm.

WE went round the science center and there were other shows being held. A 3D science show is also conducted in the park which offers life like experience to the viewers. Here also there was a nominal fee of Rs. 10. My children were feeling quite happy and excited with all these fun stories along with the hint of knowledge. There are different telescopes kept in the center just for the people to take observation of the galaxy. Stars and other heavenly bodies can be observed through these sophisticated telescopes. However this is only open to the public only on weekends.
