A Visit to Hussain Sagar Lake – The Treasure of Hyderabad

Once we were done with the trip to the Qutub Shahi tombs, it was already evening. So we decided to visit the Hussain Sagar Lake, which is one of the biggest picnic spots and star attractions of the city. The lake is one of the biggest manmade lake and also one of the most magnificent. The Lake also serves as the border between the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

A gentle cool breeze hits the person as they enter the boulevard. The lake was built by the sufi Saint Hazrat Wali Shah whose grave we saw at the Qutub Shahi tombs. This is why the lake is named after him. It was certainly one of the most visited areas of Hyderabad as there are number of tourists and locals who come here to spend some moments with their friends and family.

The biggest attraction of the Lake is the majestic statue of Lord Buddha which is located in the middle of the lake. The view of the statue in the evening from the boulevards was amazing. It was a sight worth capturing in our cameras. One can take part in many activities while visiting the lake. We took part in some water games and also tried boating. Cultural programs are also organised there almost every month.

The Lumbini Park located near the lake is a famous spot to take an evening stroll. It also has a small playing area for kids. The Birla temple is also situated in close proximity to the Lake. One can also enjoy the local street food and other Hyderabadi cuisines at number of food joints which are located near the Lake. We had a wonderful time at the Lake and clicked many pictures. The Lake is a treasure for the city and it was good to see that it is preserved by the government.

Our trip to Hyderabad came to an end after this visit. We were ready to go back to our routine lives back in Puri. The memories of this place were captured by our cameras and in our hearts. The place certainly inspired us to visit it once again sometimes in future.

Travel Photo Of The Week : Birla Mandir Hyderabad

Birla Mandir Hyderabad : The white sheen of marble Rajasthani marble of the Birla Mandir made me and my children realize that pure white is the color of serenity that gives a touch of austerity to any temple. Situated on Nuabad Pahad is this breathtakingly beautiful temple which had me charmed. We were able to view Lord Vishnu’s avatars.

Qutub Shahi Tombs – The Royal Graveyard of the Qutub Shahi Rulers

After we were done visiting the historic Golconda Fort, we headed for another historic attraction of the city which was the Qutub Shahi Tombs. The tombs are located at a distance of just 2 km from the Golconda Fort so it didn’t take much time for us to travel there. The tombs are 21 in number and are serenely situated in the lush green landscaped gardens. It also has many mosques.

The gardens are the burial grounds of the Qutub Shahi rulers and 7 out of the 8 rulers are said to be buried here along with many courtesans, physicians and other Royal family members. There is an exhibition near the entrance gate of the gardens which has all the information regarding the tombs and the people buried there. The domes of the tombs are mounted cubically and have beautiful colonnades decorated with delicate lime ornamentation.

We spent most our time taking pictures of the domes, mausoleums and the beautiful structures. The best one among them which I liked was that of Mohammed Quli, the founder of Hyderabad. The tomb stands at a height of 42 metre on a platform near the complex edge and faces Golconda Fort towards East. It is one of the most beautifully carved tombs with a lot of artistic work.

The structure and style of all the tombs varies. Some of them are Indian style, Hindu Style and most are in Persian style architecture. Many of the non ruling members of the Royal family are also buried there like Fatima Sultan, the sister of Qutub Shah. The tomb of Husain Wali, the sufi saint is also there.  The tombs are a perfect example of the engineering and craftsmanship of the artisans and builders of that era. After so many centuries, the beauty of these tombs is still intact.

Our trip to Hyderabad was in its concluding phase. We were thrilled after visiting so many amazing palaces, forts, historical structures and museums. We decided to conclude our trip with a visit to one of the star attractions of the city which was the Hussain Sagar Lake.
